Does your bar have TVs? If not, then go back to making your Sazeracs and Old Fashions and ignore this blog. For the rest of you the combination of local sports teams and social media can be incredibly beneficial to your bar.
People love drinking while they watch sports and they love getting a deal. Oh, and they love Tweeting about their team. Don’t believe me? Next time your local team’s game is on, go on Twitter and search #YourLocalTeam (obviously use the name of that team). Notice how many people are Tweeting about them? Use this to your bar’s advantage and tweet any promotion you are running and #tag the team you are supporting.
There are many different promotions you could do but the easiest thing would be to just Tweet

Of course if you are near a stadium or arena you might want to think a little bigger. How about:

Come in after the #LocalSportsTeam game!! Show your ticket and your second beer is free
Even if you are not near a sporting venue, or if it is an away game you can take advantage of game nights:
$1 off draft beers during the #LocalSportsTeam game!
Come watch the game here! $3 whatever shots every time the #LocalSportsTeam score!
Of course there are a ton of promotions that your bar could do, these are just a few examples of how to use twitter to promote them. Also anything you put on Twitter you might as well put on your Facebook too. If it is a big game or you want to do a big promotion creating a Facebook event is a must… but more on that later.
